Microneedling

Want smoother, firmer, healthier-looking skin without an invasive procedure? Microneedling works with your skin's natural healing process to stimulate collagen and improve the look and feel of your skin.

Fine lines. Uneven texture. Acne scars. Enlarged pores.

Skin that doesn't feel as firm or smooth as it used to?

These are all common concerns.

At Essential Balance, we use a clinical-grade microneedle roller to create tiny, controlled microchannels in the skin.

This stimulates the body's natural repair process and encourages collagen and elastin production, helping improve the appearance of skin over time.

Microneedling may help improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Mild skin laxity
  • Cellulite
  • Thinning hair in some cases

HOW WE CAN HELP

Microneedling in Toronto, Vaughan & the GTA

What Can Microneedling Do for Your Skin?

Reduce the Appearance of Fine Lines & Wrinkles

As we age, our skin naturally produces less collagen.

Microneedling can stimulate collagen production, which may help soften the appearance of fine lines and improve overall skin texture.

Improve Skin Texture & Tone

Sun exposure, acne, aging and other factors can leave skin looking uneven or rough.

Microneedling can help create a smoother-looking complexion and improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and texture.

Minimize the Appearance of Acne Scars

Microneedling is commonly used to improve the appearance of acne scars. The collagen produced during the healing process can help make some scars less noticeable over time.

Reduce the Appearance of Enlarged Pores

If enlarged pores are one of your concerns, microneedling may help improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin.

Microneedling at Essential Balance

At Essential Balance, we use a microneedle derma roller rather than a motorized microneedling pen.

With 540 titanium-over-stainless-steel, extremely fine medical-grade needles, our clinical microneedle roller painlessly creates microchannels (micro-traumas) in your skin, which triggers the body’s natural healing process to create new, healthier skin.

Who is a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Microneedling treatments may be very beneficial for those looking to diminish the common signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin, and to promote smoother skin. Microneedling is also effective as an acne scar treatment, to reduce stretch marks, regenerate alopecic hair thinning, tighten loose skin and for the treatment of cellulite.

Because the epidermis remains intact, the procedure is suited to regions where laser treatments and deep chemical peels are not typically performed, such as around the eyes and mouth, and chest. This makes microneedling a preferred treatment for nearly everyone. At Essential Balance, we are experienced to perform medical grade microneedling at 0.5mm on the face and 1.5mm-3 mm on the body.

Your Questions Answered

1What is microneedling?
Microneedling, sometimes called collagen induction therapy, uses very fine needles to create tiny, controlled punctures in the skin.

These microscopic channels trigger the skin's natural healing response. As the skin repairs itself, it produces new collagen and elastin — proteins that help support skin firmness, elasticity and structure.

Over time, this can lead to smoother-looking, firmer skin and improvements in the appearance of scars, pores, fine lines and uneven texture. The treatment is minimally invasive and does not involve injections or surgery.
2Why does microneedling work?
Your skin is constantly repairing and renewing itself.

Microneedling takes advantage of that natural process.

The tiny channels created during treatment signal the body to begin repairing the treated area. As new collagen and elastin are produced, the skin gradually becomes smoother and more resilient.

This is why microneedling results are not necessarily immediate. Your skin continues to change in the weeks following treatment as new collagen develops.
3What does microneedling feel like?
Most people describe the sensation as mild tingling or a light prickling feeling.

Because we use a microneedle roller technique, the treatment is generally well tolerated.

You may notice some redness immediately after treatment. This is a normal response as your skin begins its repair process.
4What happens during a microneedling treatment?
Your treatment begins with a thorough cleansing of the skin.

The microneedle roller is then carefully moved across the treatment area, creating tiny controlled channels in the skin.

Depending on your treatment, we may follow microneedling with professional-grade skincare products designed to complement the treatment.

The entire session, including spa-level skin cleansing and skin enrichment, takes approximately 45 minutes.
5Is there any downtime?
One of the appealing things about microneedling is that downtime is generally minimal.

Your skin may look red or feel slightly sensitive after treatment. Some people experience mild swelling, tightness or peeling as the skin recovers.

Following a Microneedling session, we recommend: Do not wear makeup for 6-8 hours; lipstick and mascara are allowed.

Avoid direct sunlight for 6-8 hours; do not wear any sunscreen during this time.

Follow your typical evening facial cleansing routine; using a gentle cleanser, toner, and moisturizer.
6How do I take care of my skin in the days after microneedling?
Clients should continue with a twice-daily routine of cleansing, toning and moisturizing the face.
7How quickly will I see results from microneedling treatments?
Some clients notice results quickly after receiving Microneedling treatments. However, it takes time for the new collagen and elastin to work; it can take up to 4-6 weeks to see the full results of the treatments.
8How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends on your skin and what you're hoping to improve.

Some people notice an improvement after their first treatment, but collagen production takes time. More significant changes may require a series of treatments.

Your skin continues to remodel after treatment, so results develop gradually rather than appearing all at once.

During your consultation, we can discuss a treatment schedule based on your individual goals.
9Are there any risks of microneedling?
Microneedling is generally considered to be a safe procedure; all safety and hygiene precautions are taken.

Preparation for a Microneedling procedure includes:

  • Wearing sunscreen for 2 days leading up to the treatment, and/or avoiding direct sunlight for the 2 days prior to treatment.
  • Refraining from using vitamin A and Retinol creams for the 2 days prior to treatment.
  • Refraining from taking blood-thinning medications.
  • We prefer that you arrive at our clinic without any makeup on; if you are wearing makeup, it will be gently removed, using spa-level facial cleansers.
10Can microneedling help with wrinkles?
Microneedling may help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen production and improving overall skin texture.
11Can I wear makeup after microneedling?
We recommend waiting the period advised by your practitioner before applying makeup. Your skin is more sensitive immediately following treatment and needs time to recover.
12What is the difference between a microneedling derma roller and a derma pen?
Both use fine needles to create controlled microchannels in the skin and stimulate collagen production. A derma roller uses a gentle rolling motion, while a derma pen uses a motorized vertical stamping motion.

At Essential Balance, we use a clinical-grade derma roller because it provides consistent coverage, is gentle on the skin, and allows us to treat larger areas efficiently. It also offers a simple, controlled approach that can be adjusted to suit different skin types and treatment areas.
13Can I do microneedling at home?
Professional microneedling should not be confused with at-home rollers. Devices that penetrate the skin can cause infection, scarring or skin damage when used incorrectly.
